Would you like to sing great choral orchestral works by some of the world’s greatest composers as well as revered Cathedral classics? The Sacramento Choral Society and Music Director Donald Kendrick regularly hold membership auditions throughout the season.

The SCSO rehearses on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30 PM from late August to early May. Parking is free! (First rehearsal is on August 26, 2024.)

Behind the Choral Audition What’s involved in an SCSO audition?

Dues for the entire season are $180.00. Half season: $90.00

Chorus Music Scores: Members are expected to pay for their own music scores annually. (Approximately $120)

Chorus Attire – Black Dress ($60)/Black Tuxedo ($130) – Members are expected to purchase their own chorus attire.

The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra will celebrate its 29th Season of offering large choral/orchestral performances at reasonable prices for families in the Sacramento region. Discover in person why the critics and concert attendees alike are talking about the award-winning Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, a unique group of 140 dedicated community members who come from six different counties.

The SCSO capped its 28th season with an international tour to Northern Italy in June 2024.

In June 2019, 120 SCSO Singers & Guests traveled to Austria (Salzburg), Slovenia (Lake Bled, Ljubljana) and Croatia (Zagreb) where they performed the Mozart Requiem with 2 professional European orchestras. Check out the video excerpts of this recent tour.

The SCSO has released 10 compact pact discs. many of which are also now available on iTunes and Amazon.com.

Audition for the SCSO .

The SCSO has won the “Arts Excellence Award”, the “Outstanding Non Profit of the Year” award and the “Arts Executive of the Year” award for their work in the Capital Region. As well as presenting their own concert subscription series, the SCSO has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra, Sarah Brightman’s World Tour, the Kenny Rogers Christmas Show and on national and international concert stages in Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall (LA), Canada, Europe and China. The group recently performed on the Great Altar of St. Peter’s at the Vatican in July 2013 and in Notre Dame in Paris and St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2015.  The SCSO embarked on their June 2017 international tour to Scandinavia and the Baltics featuring performances with 3 professional European orchestras in Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia) and Helsinki (Finland). The group enjoyed an optional extension visit to St. Petersburg, Russia.

In October 2013 the SCSO and Conductor Donald Kendrick were finalists in the American Prize national competition. In 2010, the SCSO won 2nd place in the Arts Innovation Competition sponsored by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.

KVIE (PBS, Channel 6) featured the SCSO in their Viewfinder documentary series that began airing regularly on public television beginning in January 2011. In 2012 the documentary was chosen to go national across the U.S. Some 300+ Public Television Stations now have the option of sharing the SCSO’s KVIE documentary with their local viewers. The SCSO is proud to represent Sacramento via the arts on a national level.
