The SCSO had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Dr. Ryan Enright as the SCSO’s new accompanist in November 2011. Ryan also served as organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento and was a member of the SCSO Orchestra. He also served as accompanist for the Sacramento State University Choirs with Dr. Donald Kendrick. Ryan was also the Sub Dean of the Sacramento Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO).
Ryan made his Sacramento debut as an organ recitalist at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in a program entitled Brilliant and Meditative Organ Works Through the Ages. The program included works by Bach, Brahms, Liszt, Widor and improvisation on submitted themes.
In early September 2012 Ryan made his San Franciso debut in a well-received recital at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Centennial Organ Series Concert at Chico State University recently featured Ryan in September 2013. Ryan recently gave his second organ recital at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento in June 2014.
Ryan completed his DMA in Organ Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music in 2011 and was one of sixteen finalists in the Canadian International Organ Competition held in Montréal, Quebec in October 2011.
A native of Montréal, Quebec, Ryan has taken first prizes in
- the RCCCO (Royal Canadian College of Organists) National Organ Playing Competition (2007)
- the Quebec Organ Competition (2004)
- the Canadian Music Competition (1998)
Ryan is a graduate of McGill University in Montréal where his teachers were John Grew and William Porter. His studies have taken him to Holland, France, and Italy. Ryan has also competed in international competitions in Dublin and Kotka, Finland. Ryan is an avid recitalist and is known for his skills as an organ improviser.
Ryan served as Organ Scholar and Assistant Organist of Christ Chuch Cathedral in Montréal and was Director of Music and Organist of St. Phillip’s Church in Montréal West. He played continuo for the Eastman Collegium Musicum and various chamber music ensembles.
Ryan’s passions outside of the musical world include bicycling, yoga, hiking, swimming and whitewater rafting. Ryan has done an amazing job of discovering the beauty of Northern California’s natural landscapes.
Ryan decided to return to Canada in November 2025. We completely understood his decision and supported his decision. Enjoy our tribute video thanking Ryan for sharing 14 amazing years with the SCSO and our Sacramento Community. To say that we will all miss Ryan is a serious understatement.
